Does marinating a cat really enhance the flavor? Hey, don’t shoot the messenger. (And please, PETA folks, no more emails. The Juice truly likes animals, especially cats.) Mr. Gary Korkuc was caught literally marinating his cat. Here’s the story, as reported by www.buffalonews.com:

Buffalo police say officers heard the cat meowing when they stopped 51-year-old Gary Korkuc of Cheektowaga to ticket him for running a stop sign Sunday night.

They say they checked the trunk and found 4-year-old Navarro in a cage, his fur covered with oil, crushed red peppers and chili peppers.

Very uncool. But why?

Police say Korkuc told them he did it because Navarro was ill-tempered.

… he [also] told them he was going to cook Navarro. But they say Korkuc also complained that the neutered male cat got pregnant after he was spayed.

What what what? [Funnier for South Park fans.] A pregnant male cat? Anyway, it looks like Navarro will be fine, as he was cleaned up and is awaiting adoption. And Mr. Korkuc?

[He] was charged with cruelty and released; his phone number isn’t listed.

Think he’s glad he opted for an unlisted number?

doorbell%20ding%20dong%20ditch.jpg

If you’ve never played doorbell ditch (a/k/a ding dong ditch), well, you’re from Mars. Still, as common as it is, kids who hear this story may think twice about it. And perhaps the “victims” of this harmless prank will think twice about how they react. From an article in the Albany Times-Union:

A lawyer retained by the parents of a 14-year-old prankster tackled by a Delmar homeowner characterized the man as an over-aggressive vigilante.

The attorney’s account of the incident challenged the folk hero status a deluge of online commentators have granted 37-year-old homeowner Daniel P. Van Plew since the incident Saturday night when the boy rang his doorbell and tried to run away with three friends.

What do you think?

“He (Van Plew) crossed the line. He never should have used that kind of force when he realized it was a 14-year-old who’s a small kid,” said attorney Kristie Hanson, who represents the teen’s parents, Rob and Ann Madeo of Glenmont.

The boy, whose name is being withheld because of his age, is 5-foot-7 and 120 pounds. Van Plew is 5-foot-11, 170 pounds and plays hockey.

Speaking on behalf of the Madeos at her Rotterdam law office on Thursday, Hanson alleged that Van Plew tackled the teen on the asphalt roadway of Egmont Court more than 100 feet beyond his property line, roughly dragged the boy back inside his house with his arms pinioned behind his back, forced him to sit on the floor and said he was going to kill the boy if he tried to leave.

Both Van Plew and the police report stated that the Madeo boy was brought down in the homeowner’s yard, an important legal distinction because a homeowner is afforded more protection in a case of self-defense that occurs on one’s property compared to off the property.

Hanson said the three other teens engaged with the Madeo boy in “ding-dong ditch” concur that Van Plew tackled the teen off the homeowner’s property. “People have a right to defend their homes and property, but when they leave their property to effect a citizen’s arrest, the use of force has to be reasonable based on the crime committed,” said Lt. Robert Berben.

Interesting, right? You can read more – a fair amount – by clicking here.

Update: Mr. Van Plew was charged and … the charges were dropped. Read about it here.

Say your neighbor has a trailer in the parking lot with a bunch of furniture in it. You’re tired of looking at it, but what to do? In a word … Craigslist! Yeah, sure, technically (and in ever other way) it’s not yours. Carpe diem, right Ms. Kimball? Per the Tampa Tribune:

The 29-year-old resident of Chelsea Meadows apartments got sick of looking at a trailer loaded with furniture in the complex parking lot, Pasco County deputies say.

So she took matters into her own hands by taking a picture of it and posting an advertisement on Craigslist, deputies say.

I doubt Craig was pleased.

“Come get this trailer, attach it to your car and get it out of here,” it read. “I’m tired of looking at it, and I have no idea what to do with it. You must take couches and dresser too either keep them or dispose of them, just get them out of here! Thank you! No need to email or call just come get it,” it stated. The ad continued with specific directions to the complex. “The trailer is sitting in the parking lot ready to be attached to the car and take. I will delete this post when it is gone. Thank you!”

And?

[The trailer owner’s fiancee – actually it belongs to his dad] Jennifer Lepage, … was home when someone knocked on the door looking for the free trailer. She said it wasn’t free and looked outside and saw it had vanished, Andrews said.

Snap! And Ms. Kimball almost pulled it off.

At some point, another person came over looking for the freebie and had the printed advertisement in hand and waited for deputies to arrive.

“If he had not had printed it out, I would have had no way of proving to the deputy that it was on Craigslist because by that time it had been deleted,” Andrews said.

The charges?

… deputies arrested Vanessa Kimball, 29, on a charge of grand theft.

The trailer? The furniture? …

By the next day, according to a sheriff’s office report … the [now damaged] trailer reappeared – still loaded with the furniture – at the end of the complex’s driveway …

bad%20boss.jpg

It’s one thing for a boss to be a jerk to an employee. There are only so many Michael Scotts out there … One must draw the line, though, at beating an employee. Local prosecutors have drawn that line in the case of Vladimir Khapalov, the mayor of the Russian town of Shakhtyorsk. As reported by Reuters:

The woman was on the night watch at the administration building … when [the] mayor showed up after midnight one night last November, Interfax said.

Citing local prosecutors, it said Khapalov struck her with the door when she opened it, and hit her two more times.

Done? Nope.

He then kicked her in the hip area after accusing her of sleeping on the job and demanding she resign, Interfax said.

At one point the woman fell and hit her head on a radiator, the report said. She suffered scrapes, bruises and concussion. Interfax said the woman was hospitalized for 20 days afterwards.

Shazam! What happened to the mayor?

Khapalov has now been suspended and faces a criminal charge of violent abuse of authority.

In Readington Township, New Jersey, a 59-year-old man actually went to his 88-year-old mom’s senior center residence – apparently drunk – and got into it with her. So what did she do? She put the hurt on him! Per the Hunterdon County Democrat:

An incident between a mother and her son brought police to the Mirota Senior Residence on Van Horn Road on Friday. Police were called around 8:30 a.m.; they gave the following account of the incident.

An 88-year-old woman and her 59-year-old son got into an argument and then the mother assaulted the son, causing visible injuries to his face. The son appeared to be intoxicated and was being loud and disturbing other residents at the complex.

The son was arrested for harassment and disorderly conduct and was released after being detained for several hours.

The mother was also arrested and charged with simple assault. She was released after being served with a summons.

Both were offered various forms of assistance provided by the county, but they both declined.

Who needs assistance? Everything is totally under control …

Drunk people often do really stupid things, as illustrated by the acts of a gentleman in New Port Richey, Florida. Per the St. Petersburg Times:

A man was arrested Friday after deputies said he called 911 multiple times to complain his mother took his beer away.

BUT YOU DON’T UNDERSTAND! SHE TOOK HIS BEER!

Charles Dennison, 32, who was “very intoxicated,” told a deputy who went to their home at 1739 Dennison Road that he wanted his mother arrested for taking his beer, according to a Pasco County Sheriff’s Office arrest report. If she wasn’t charged, he said, he would continue to call 911.

A deputy charged him with making false 911 calls and took him to the jail in Land O’Lakes, where he remained Monday morning. His bail is $150.

Perhaps it’s time to find an apartment? A group house?

(Hang in there. It gets funny at 46 seconds.)

When some folks are ready for supper, there’s just no telling what they’ll do if it’s not ready. What this fella allegedly did will make it very difficult for his wife to prepare dinner for him, at least in the near future. From the Charleston (West Virginia) Daily Mail:

A Sissonville man who was upset that dinner wasn’t ready set fire to his home Sunday, according to the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Department.

Deputy A.J. Miller responded to 19452 Derrick’s Creek Road just before midnight after Beverly Jones called to report that her husband, Guy, 60, had started the fire.

Jones said her husband returned home after drinking and was upset because she didn’t have dinner on the table. After an argument, Jones fled to a neighbor’s home. She told deputies she saw flames coming from the basement and her husband exiting the basement door.

Miller said the home was engulfed in flames when he arrived. Jones was arrested and charged with first-degree arson. He was taken to South Central Regional Jail.

Zoinks!

blow%20dart.jpg

You can’t go through life without encountering folks who just plain like to hear themselves talk. I can deal with that. But what about people who just plain like to hear other people say … “ouch” … and don’t mind making it happen? Per WSAU in Wisconsin:

A 41-year-old woman from Plover is in custody after shooting people with blow darts from her van. It’s believed Paula Wolf hit five people. She told police that she liked to hear people say “ouch”.

Police arrested Wolf and found the blow darts in her vehicle. Police also recovered a blow gun, a slingshot, and a bucket of rocks. Its also believed that she broke the front window of a business in Stevens Point.

Uncool.

As a bicycle commuter who has been on the receiving end of many unkind words, The Juice can relate to this incident. From the Colorado Springs Police Department Crime Blotter:

Incident Date: April 5, 2010 Time: 4:34:00 PM

Summary: Stetson Hills Officers were dispatched to a weapons brandishing stemming from a road rage situation occurring at the intersection of Old Farm Drive @ Old Farm Circle West. Officers spoke with an adult male victim who reported that he was riding his bike on Austin Bluffs Park Way when he was confronted by a motorist in a red Jeep Cherokee. The victim alleged that the suspect in the Cherokee yelled at him for being in the street on his bike. A short time later, the two came to a stop at an intersection and they engaged in a mutual discussion about the situation. The victim said at some point, the driver of the vehicle displayed what appeared to be a small caliber hand gun. The victim then used his cellular telephone to take a picture of the vehicles license plate. A robbery charge was attached because the victim said the suspect tried to take the phone away from him, so he drove away from the area and called the police. Officers used the license plate information to obtain the suspects address. They responded to 5220 Farm Ridge Place and spoke with 46 year old Curtis Scrivner. Scrivner was contacted in the back yard of his residence. Scrivner was not compliant with the officer’s requests and a brief stand-off occurred. A short time later Mr. Scrivner ran into his house. A short time later, officers made contact with the suspect by phone and successfully negotiated his surrender. Mr. Scrivner was arrested and booked into the criminal justice center for felony menacing and aggravated robbery.
